17th century German school after Hans Johann Rottenhammer (1564 Munich - Augsburg 1625) Virgin and Child with St. John the Baptist Oil on copper 16.5 x 13 cm. Presented in an exuberant blackened wood and gilded brass frame, with inlays of baroque silvered brass ornaments and gilded bronze mascarons. A delicate version painted after the engraving made in Augsburg, circa 1610, by Dominicus Custos (1560-1612), based on a drawing by Rottenhammer (1564 Munich - Augsburg 1625). The engraving was accompanied by the line: "Qui tolles nos tui scelere vestigia, salve Magne puer, tener ille Deique ab ouilibus agne." Expert: Pierre-Antoine MARTENET.
